Custom Timber Kitchen Bench Top
After selecting a black butt timber log (probably over 200 years old) to suit the project, we then set up a mobile saw mill to cut the log into the slabs required for the kitchen bench, 120 mm thick 700 plus mm wide
Once slabs were cut they are then cut to oversize length
Next the timber was placed into a specially designed kiln to fast dry the timber taking 4 days to dry, normally this would take 3 months in a traditional kiln. To air dry the timber would normally take 4 half years so this is a unique process which many say it can’t be done.
Once these thick wide slabs are dried the timber is then milled to the exact required sizes the client wanted. The client wanted a darker timber so a brown Japan stain was used in combination with natural organ eucalyptus oil, which is used to retain the feel of timber and smell while also so giving protection
I delivered the kitchen benches and helped install, from logging the timber, custom cutting the timber slab and delivering was under a month.
The timber slab finished sizes were 650 mm width 115 mm thick slab over 2000 long.
Also two others at 1100 mm long 115 mm thick 650mm wide.
