Every shelf is made to order. Tell us the length, depth and thickness you need, and we’ll cut it from a slab that suits.
- Edges: live edge (natural edge) to keep the slab’s natural outline, or straight edge for a clean, modern look
- Finishes: raw timber, natural oils, stained to a colour, or 2-pack urethane for a hard-wearing surface
- Uses: feature shelves, bookshelves, kitchen and bar shelving, and display shelves for residential and commercial spaces
Choose your Australian hardwood
We work with a range of Australian hardwoods, including blackbutt, tallowood, blue gum, red gum, brush box, she oak, silky oak, bloodwood and red cedar. The right timber depends on where the shelf will go, what it needs to carry, the look you’re after and what’s available at the time. Ian will recommend options that suit your project.
Our timber is sustainably sourced from the hinterland of the NSW mid north coast.
Project: a 200-year-old Blackbutt floating shelf
This feature shelf was cut from a Blackbutt slab we estimate to be more than 200 years old. At 120 mm thick and over 700 mm wide, it’s a statement piece as much as a shelf. We finished it with a brown Japan stain combined with natural eucalyptus oil, which protects the timber while keeping its natural feel and scent. The result is a rustic look that still sits comfortably in a modern room, and a centrepiece for an entertaining area.
Built by a licensed craftsman
Our founder, Ian Evans, holds an Australian licence in joinery and carpentry and has more than 30 years’ experience in the timber trade. He selects the timber for every piece and hand crafts each shelf, so what arrives in your home is built to last for generations.

How much weight can a solid timber floating shelf hold?
Solid slab shelves are very strong and carry a large amount of weight. The exact load depends on the shelf’s size and the wall it’s fixed to, so we’ll talk through what you plan to put on it.
